Speech

I speak my mind with words symbolic;
This smile from gas, and that for frolic,
This cry for milk, and that from colic.
My friends around me hear my plea.
With gentle hands they care for me.

I speak my mind with words demanding
The random things my eyes are scanning;
The things I need, and understanding.
I come to sense a mystery
That links the world of words and me.

I speak my mind with words free flowing.
With years of practice clearly showing
I speak disdain, or praise aglowing.
Like loving pets words flock to me.
They parse themselves in harmony.

I speak my mind with words elusive
As schools of nouns frustrate my choices
And thoughts disjointed find no voices.
But friends around me hear my plea.
With gentle hands they care for me.
